Intrusion detection with near-zero false positives

Deception-as-a-service on the Labyrinth platform โ€” decoys and breadcrumbs across IT and OT that turn any attacker interaction into a high-fidelity alert. Test us in your next red team exercise.

Deception-as-a-service from Passeca deploys decoys and breadcrumbs across your IT and OT environments. Because no legitimate user has reason to touch a decoy, interactions with decoys are strong indicators of potentially suspicious activity โ€” delivering near-zero false positives and catching the malware-free intrusions and lateral movement that EDR and SIEM miss.

Definition

What is deception technology?

Deception technology places realistic decoys, breadcrumbs and lures across an environment โ€” fake credentials, shares, servers and services that look and behave like real assets. The defining property is asymmetry: legitimate users and processes have no reason to interact with them, so interactions with decoys are strong indicators of potentially suspicious activity. Legitimate scanning or testing can also trigger alerts.

This makes deception exceptionally high-fidelity. Where EDR and SIEM must distinguish malicious from benign behaviour amid enormous volume, deception starts from the opposite premise โ€” a decoy has no legitimate users, so touching one is a strong signal.

Deception's strength is exactly where conventional detection is weakest.

Who needs it

Who needs deception as a service?

  • You face stealthy intrusions โ€” malware-free, living-off-the-land attacks that evade EDR.
  • You operate OT / SCADA where agentless, air-gap-capable detection is essential.
  • Your SOC is drowning in false positives and needs high-fidelity signal.
  • You want to prove detection value in your next red team exercise.
How it works

From design to automated response

  1. 01

    Design

We map your environment and design a deception deployment โ€” decoys, breadcrumbs and lures that match your real assets so an attacker cannot tell the difference. Because no legitimate user has reason to touch a decoy, interactions with decoys are strong indicators of potentially suspicious activity.

  2. 02

    Deploy

Decoys and breadcrumbs are placed across IT, and โ€” uniquely โ€” across OT and SCADA environments, agentless and air-gap capable. Deployment for an SMB can take as little as two hours.

  3. 03

    Detect

When an attacker, malware-free intrusion or lateral movement touches a decoy, deception generates a high-fidelity alert โ€” near-zero false positives, because a decoy has no legitimate users.

  4. 04

    Respond

Detection triggers automated response โ€” threat-indicator generation, host isolation and incident logging โ€” feeding PassIRP and PassAI-Guard so the SOC contains the threat immediately.

The technology

Labyrinth + PassIRP / PassAI-Guard

Deception alerts feed the same SOC stack as the rest of your detection โ€” a decoy hit triggers immediate containment.

The service runs on Labyrinth โ€” agentless decoys and breadcrumbs for IT and OT, multitenant with RBAC for SOC use. Alerts generate threat indicators and flow into PassIRP, where PassAI-Guard enriches and triages them and SOAR playbooks can isolate the offending host automatically. See the Labyrinth partnership page for more on the platform.

How long / how much

How long and how much?

Deception can be deployed fast โ€” for an SMB in as little as two hours, with low ongoing maintenance. Larger and OT environments take longer to design. The service runs continuously once live.

Compliance

Which compliance requirements this supports

  • ISO 27001 โ€” monitoring and intrusion-detection controls with high-fidelity detection.
  • NIS2 โ€” incident detection for essential entities, including OT operators.
  • DORA โ€” detection capability for financial entities' ICT systems.
FAQ

Deception-as-a-service, answered

The questions organisations ask about deploying deception as a managed service.

What is deception-as-a-service?
Deception-as-a-service is the managed deployment of deception technology โ€” decoys, breadcrumbs and lures placed across your environment to detect intruders. Passeca designs, deploys and operates Labyrinth for you, integrating alerts into the SOC so detection leads to immediate response.
What is Labyrinth?
Labyrinth is the deception technology Passeca operates โ€” decoys, breadcrumbs and lures for IT and OT, multitenant with RBAC for SOC use. Passeca is the managed-service partner: we deploy and operate Labyrinth, tune the decoys to your environment, and wire the alerts into PassIRP and PassAI-Guard for detection-led response.
Why does deception have near-zero false positives?
Because decoys are not real assets, no legitimate user or process has any reason to interact with them. Interactions with decoys are strong indicators of potentially suspicious activity โ€” an attacker probing the network, malware spreading, or an insider exploring where they should not. Legitimate scanning or testing can also trigger alerts. This is what makes deception alerts so high-fidelity compared to EDR or SIEM.
Can deception catch attacks that EDR and SIEM miss?
Yes. Deception is particularly effective against malware-free intrusions, living-off-the-land abuse, lateral movement and credential theft โ€” the stealthy behaviours that evade signature and behaviour-based detection. That is why it complements, rather than replaces, EDR and SIEM.
Does deception work in OT and SCADA environments?
Yes โ€” Labyrinth offers purpose-built OT/SCADA decoys that are agentless, passive and air-gap capable, with zero performance impact on operational systems. This makes it a strong fit for manufacturing and critical infrastructure.
How do we test whether deception actually works?
Run a red team exercise. If the red team's lateral movement touches a decoy, deception detects it โ€” a clean, convincing proof of value. That is why we invite you to test us in your next red team exercise.
Always-on defence

Test us in your next red team exercise.

The cleanest proof of deception is a red team. If their lateral movement touches a decoy, we detect it. Book a consultation and we will scope a deception deployment โ€” then put it to the test.
