Exposure Management ยท Tenable

Focus on the vulnerabilities that matter most.

Exposure management on Tenable unifies vulnerability, misconfiguration, identity and cloud risk โ€” then prioritises the exposures that are reachable and exploitable in your environment.

Exposure management from Passeca, on the Tenable platform, unifies vulnerability, misconfiguration, identity and cloud findings across IT, cloud and OT, then prioritises the exposures that are reachable and exploitable in your environment. The result is not 40,000 CVEs to chase, but the handful that genuinely put you at risk.

Positioned above vulnerability management

Exposure management vs vulnerability management

Vulnerability management tells you what is vulnerable; exposure management tells you what is exposed.

Exposure management does not replace vulnerability management โ€” it sits above it. You still scan and patch; exposure management adds the context that tells you which findings to fix first. Passeca offers both: see our vulnerability management service.

Definition

What is exposure management?

Modern estates generate tens of thousands of findings โ€” vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, identity exposures, cloud risks โ€” across disconnected tools. No team can remediate them all, and most do not need to. The question is which ones actually put the organisation at risk.

Exposure management answers that question. It unifies the findings into one view, enriches each with asset criticality and reachability, and applies exploitability context so that remediation effort lands on the exposures an attacker would actually use. It is vulnerability management evolved into risk-based decision-making.

Who needs it

Who needs exposure management?

  • You are drowning in findings and cannot tell what to fix first.
  • You span IT, cloud and OT and need a single prioritised view across all of it.
  • You must defend remediation choices to the board or regulators on a risk basis.
  • You have vulnerability management but need the prioritisation layer above it.
How it works

From unified data to prioritised action

  1. 01

    Unify

Tenable aggregates vulnerability, misconfiguration, identity and cloud findings across IT, cloud and OT into one normalised view โ€” ending the sprawl of disconnected scan outputs.

  2. 02

    Contextualise

Each finding is enriched with asset criticality, exploitability and reachability context. The result is not 'here are 40,000 CVEs' but 'here are the exposures that actually matter.'

  3. 03

    Prioritise

We rank exposures by real risk โ€” those that are reachable and exploitable in your specific environment โ€” so you spend remediation effort where it changes your risk, not on CVSS noise.

  4. 04

    Remediate & verify

Passeca supports or executes remediation and tracks each prioritised exposure through to closure, then verifies the fix โ€” closing the loop, not just opening tickets.

The technology

Powered by Tenable

Tenable unifies exposure data across IT, cloud and OT and applies the analytics that turn raw findings into prioritised risk.

Tenable ingests vulnerability, configuration, identity and cloud-posture data into a single platform and prioritises exposures by reachability and exploitability. Passeca implements, tunes and operates it, and supports remediation. Prioritised exposures feed PassIRP so they become part of your broader detection and response picture. See the Tenable partner page.

Time & cost

How long and how much?

Initial unification and prioritisation can be stood up in weeks for most estates; the service runs continuously thereafter. Pricing reflects estate size and the number of data sources unified.

Compliance

Which compliance requirements this supports

  • ISO 27001 โ€” vulnerability management and risk-treatment controls, evidenced by prioritised remediation.
  • NIS2 / DORA โ€” risk-based vulnerability handling and continuous monitoring obligations.
  • PCI DSS โ€” prioritised remediation within the cardholder-data environment.
FAQ

Exposure management, answered

The questions organisations ask when drowning in vulnerability findings.

What is exposure management?
Exposure management is the practice of unifying vulnerability, misconfiguration, identity and cloud findings across your entire estate, then prioritising the exposures that are reachable and exploitable in your environment. Instead of 40,000 CVEs, it surfaces the handful that genuinely put you at risk โ€” so remediation effort goes where it changes your risk.
What is the difference between exposure management and vulnerability management?
Vulnerability management finds and tracks known weaknesses on known assets. Exposure management sits above it: it ingests vulnerability data alongside misconfigurations, identity exposure and cloud risk, then applies reachability and exploitability context to prioritise what actually matters. Vulnerability management tells you what is vulnerable; exposure management tells you what is exposed.
Why Tenable?
Tenable is a leader in exposure management, with the breadth to unify findings across IT, cloud and OT and the analytics to prioritise by real risk. Passeca implements and operates it as part of our partner stack โ€” see our Tenable partner page.
What does 'reachable and exploitable' mean?
An exposure is reachable if an attacker can actually get to it in your network, and exploitable if a workable attack path exists against it. A critical CVE on an isolated, internal-only system with no public path is far less urgent than a high-severity finding on an internet-reachable service. Exposure management makes that distinction.
Does exposure management replace vulnerability management?
No โ€” it builds on it. You still need vulnerability scanning and remediation; exposure management adds the prioritisation and context layer that turns raw scan output into risk-based action. They are complementary, and Passeca offers both.
How much does exposure management cost?
Pricing reflects estate size and the breadth of data sources unified.
